The Canberra Glassworks

The Canberra Glassworks is also a major attraction on the Kingston Foreshore. Located in the historical Kingston Powerhouse, it’s Australia’s only cultural centre dedicated to providing glassworks facilities to glass artists. You can meet artists and watch them create spectacular pieces, view exhibitions, take a tour and even make something for yourself to take home in a glassmaking class on the weekend. Donations are encouraged upon entry, and fees do apply for workshops, tours and special events. Open Tuesday to Sunday (although closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day) from 10am to 4pm.

The Canberra International Music Festival

The Kingston Foreshore also hosts many of the performances in Canberra’s annual International Music Festival. Most of the contemporary and classical performances, interactive installations and video projections are held in the historic Fitters’ Workshop, the Jack Ross Park and along the promenade. Held in the first half of each year, it’s best to check the Canberra International Music Festival website for the latest performance times.
